Constitution
In order to be recognised by Council as a formal community group, the Southampton Common Forum requires a written constitution which defines what we do and how we do it.
Our draft Constitution was written in 2016 by members of the initial volunteer steering group who were tasked with setting up the Forum and circulated for comment to interested parties by our secure email distribution list and public facebook page. As a result of suggestions received, it was refined, re-circulated and formally adopted at a public meeting in January 2017.
With the constitution adopted, the forum was then able to elect its first, formal Management Committee.
In 2019, we made some minor changes to the adopted constitution in order to facilitate Forum business.
(1) to update our data protection and equal opportunities policies.
(2) to ammend the quorum for public meetings in order to ensure that they can make decisions.
(3) to increase the number of ordinary members of the Management Committee from 4 to 6.
