In the summer when The Common is busiest, litter can be a major problem - there is also a historical legacy of litter and fly tipping in the wooded and scrubland areas. We take advantage of the long, warm summer evenings to arrange short (2 hour max) litter picking sessions at different locations across The Common. Litter pickers, bag hoops, gloves and biodegradable litter bags are all provided. To date we have collected over 130 bags of litter.
We are also happy to arrange weekend daytime litter picks for specific community groups. Past Groups have included Pathfinders and Southampton University’s Estonian Society (in Estonia, there is an annual “lets do it” day when the entire nation gets out and cleans up their local environment - a movement that has now spread globally).
